What makes this trip sustainable?
This trip was developed in collaboration with Mr. Dennis Vulink and our local partner in Colombia. The challenge was to keep the comfort and price the same with the regular trips but to minimize the impact. This trip has 30% lower carbon dioxide emissions than our regular trips. What makes this trip extra sustainable:
Stay: these already score very high on sustainability but is even more sharpened and there is a homestay at a community. Transport: You travel as much as possible on a comfortable tourist bus. Transfers are still just by car and driver and also the hard-to-reach places.
Activities: these also score well but with extra attention and training they are made even more sustainable. On this trip, whole sporting activities can be added or more peaceful. The most ideal itinerary starts with an arrival on Monday in Bogota, you are then Saturday at the market of Tierra Adentro and Tuesday at Sylvia.

Day 1 to 3 Bogota

Your 21-day sustainable in Colombia starts naturally in the capital Bogotá. You will stay here on the outskirts of the city in one of South America's most ecological hotels From here you can discover the impressive history of this million city with our city tour in the colonial center. The second day you will have an exciting guided bike tour of Bogota. In the afternoon you can take a walk with a guide to the Paramo which is bogota's natural water purification.
Another option is to take the cable car, up the Monsterrate mountain, for great views of the city. On the third day there are two options the choice is a cultural tour or ecological tour. For the cultural tour, you'll get a special tour to a community that lives less than 45 minutes from Bogota. Here you will discover the local culture of the community Muisca (Sesquile) this is towards the salt cathedral Zipaquira and thereby also add to the trip. The ecologicshe tour starts in a neighborhood that has suffered a lot from the violence "Gangs-Guys' now have a completely different life and focus entirely on nature conservation. This day you will learn more about their culture and also help nature with the planting of trees.

Day 4 Tatacoa DesertOn day 4, you'll leave Bogota and travel south by public transport in 6 hours to visit the Tatacoa Desert. With a canoe you go over the Magdalena River and you stay overnight under the stars. A fantastic color game will be seen in this desert. The night is in the desert itself where you will spend the night in a tent that is already waiting for you. In the evening you can take a walk through the desert and r is an opportunity to visit the observatory. The next morning you start at sunrise with a visit to Tatacoa desert which turns fantastic with the morning sun. With the guide, you'll return to Villavieja where you'll continue to Tierra Adentro after lunch by public transport, travel time 5 hours.

Day 5 to 6 Tierra AdentroSan Agustin is perhaps the more famous destination in this region to visit the rich history of the Pro Colombia era. With this trip we have chosen the less visited but certainly no less spectacular Tierra Adentro. The nature around these excavations are absolutely fantastic beautiful so you can take a nice walk in this area You are staying here in a nice small-scale hotel from where you can easily start the walks and visit the old graves.  The next morning you will be picked up and visit the archaeological park with a guide. From here you can continue walking on your own with beautiful views over the valleys and when you like to hike you can also continue to the waterfalls. On Saturdays there is also a small local market. Nearby there is an opportunity to visit the Inza community for a glimpse into the local culture.

Day 7 to 8 PopayanThis morning, leave Tierra Adentro and travel by bus to the white colonial town of Popayan. This trip takes about 5 hours and takes you through a beautiful area of the Andes (when using private transport you can also visit the Condors along the way). In Popayan you will soon feel at home in this colonial city and a guide can tell you some more about the history and beautiful colonial buildings. On day 8 you have a day off for example to visit the city, take a bike tour or go with a tour to the beautiful purace national park. On this tour, you'll also visit the Andean Condors who live here.

Day 9 Sylvia (Tuesday)Today there is a special destination on the program namely the authentic town of Silvia. A small mountain village located 60 km from Popayan. On Tuesdays, the Guambiano people are busy because of the market day. People still wear their traditional clothes: colorful long dresses, ponchos and scarves. The women wear amazingly beautiful white necklaces. Today you will not only enjoy this beautiful lokle market but you will also spend the night with the local community. In this way, you can not only see part of life during the day, but also enjoy their culinary activities and hospitality in the evening. If your trip does not fall on a Tuesday or you are not interested in this stop you can also travel to the coffee region or the salsa city of Cali this day.

Day 10 to 11 Zona CafateraToday you will see the next pearl of Colombia: the coffee region. This one has an overwhelming beauty and tranquility. Here you will learn not only all about coffee, but also the valleys and picturesque villages from a hacienda with a guide. Of course, the Valle de Cocora with the tallest palm trees in the world goes with it. We also have an alternative for this climate neutral trip. In addition, we visit the coffee region in cooperation with the smaller local coffee farmers. You will visit the small towns like Santa Rosa de Cabal, with their hot water baths, Pijao and Filandia. If you are sporty, our 2 day trek from Manizales to Salento is an unforgettable experience. These days you walk with a gide and stay at people's homes along the way. During this trek you will go through Valle de cocora to Salento. Depending on the choice, you can drive to Santa Rosa this afternoon (2 hours) then you stay in the evening at the hot springs and the trip to Medellin is only 4 hours.

Day 12 to 13 MedellinAfter the quiet life in the valley, we would like to show you again a beautiful historical city. From Salento you will travel in 6 hours by bus to Medellin where you will stay 2 nights. The next day you have a city tour with a guide in the morning. This shows you the impressive past of Medellin and the build-up of this moment. In the afternoon you have time off to spend. Another option is to visit Penol and Guatape. These mystical rock and colored streets are about 2 hours from Medellin.

Day 14 to 16 Yarumal and Viento SolarIn the coming days you will be very different from the tourist route. Where normally the plane is taken to the Caribbean coast you will make a nice trip overland. We'll be moving forward there for the next 3 days so there's plenty of time to make some nice trips and enjoy the coast. The ride starts to Yarumal which is about 3 hours drive away. Along the way, pass a hidden gem in the town of Santa Rosa de Osos. You will see why this is called Colombian Athens. After the overnight stay in Yarumal in an authentic country house you will have a long travel day. In 9 hours you will travel by bus via Moñitos to the coast where you will stay 2 nights in Viento Solar. A lovely place where you have your own Cabana. Mass tourism is not here so the beach is shared with only some locals. There are also many sloths in this area, so you will definitely find them. Next to the beach, the walk through the 'jungle', along beaches and naturally formed botanical gardens is definitely worth it.

Day 17 to 19 CartagenaCartagena centerYou are going to say goodbye to the beach and today there is a bus trip to Cartagena! It's about a 5-hour drive but a stop at San Basilio de Palenque for a delicious lunch and viewing (the first city where the African slaves lived in freedom) breaks down the trip well. Your last stay is in the delightful city of Cartagena, where you have plenty of time to read a book on the beach or make trips to uncharted places like Islas del Rosario. You also have the opportunity to visit the project which is supported by your trip. From here there is a transfer and unfortunately again a flight home.

At Go Local! the possibilities are almost unlimited, which is why we only give a short summary here. If you are looking for specific places, activities or experiences please let us know.
